Výtvarnice a nakladatelka Marcela Vostřelová vedla tuto sobotu v naší škole tvořivé dílny a představovala dětem literaturu, kterou tvoří a vydává ve svém nakladatelství POP - PAP. Žáci malovali svůj obraz inspirováni nádhernou knížkou MEKY MEK, která učí respektu k hospodářským zvířatům. Někteří mladí malíři poprvé použili špachtle, strukturovací pastu a spreje.

Join us for a special evening with publisher and artist Marcela Vostřelová, whose book The Curious Bee Ella (O zzzvědavé včele Ele) won the title of Most Beautiful Book of 2024.
Marcela will introduce her publishing house POP - PAP and share insights into her creative work. The presentation will be followed by a hands-on activity. Under her guidance, each participant will create a 14 × 14″ canvas inspired by her book MEKY MEK! which is part of Marcela’s distinctive mission to depict the lives of often overlooked farm animals. We will be using acrylic paints, modeling paste, sprays, and farm animal stencils designed by the author. Work clothes recommended.
A small exhibition of Marcela’s artwork will be on display, and a selection of her books—both in Czech and in English—will be available for purchase.

Dílny moravského ornamentu s malérečkou Mirkou Ferstlovou absolvovaly o víkendu všechny naše třídy. Menší žáci zkoušeli kolorovat svůj ornament a děti s pevnějším tahem si odnesly domů látkové tašky, na které ornamenty přenášely akrylovými barvami. Mirka dlouhou sobotu zakončila ještě správkou a žehlením školních krojů a dokázala bez mrknutí oka všem, že holka z Podluží něco vydrží. Děkujeme za inspirativní návštěvu, bezpočet akcí pro studenty a komunitu a pozvánku na hody! 🙏🏼🎨👋🏽
The Prague Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International invites you to an evening of jazz featuring renowned Czech singer Martina Bárta. She will perform an intimate concert at Café Prague on the eve of International Jazz Day.
Special guests include Šimon Pánek, co-founder and director of People in Need and a student leader during the Velvet Revolution, and Tomáš Sedláček, director of the Václav Havel Library, economist and author of the international bestseller Economics of Good and Evil.

Proceeds support the Prague Committee’s programs, including student exchanges between Whitney Young Magnet High School and Gymnázium Nad Alejí, as well as cultural events with visiting artists, authors, and musicians. The committee also partners with the Czech Consulate on initiatives such as Czech Heritage Week and events surrounding the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

Cultural Thursday with folk artist Miroslava Ferstlová brought a closer look at the beauty of Moravian ornament, as Mirka guided our audience through regional differences and traditions. Following her lecture, the practical part took over. Decorating tote bags was not an easy task, but judging by the focus (and a few sighs), everyone rose to the challenge and the results were absolutely worth it. 🛍️🖌️🎨
