📚 The Power of Words – A Discussion with Radka Denemarková
🗓️ Thursday, April 3, 2025 | 7 PM
📍 T. G. Masaryk Czech School, 5701 W 22nd Place, Cicero, IL
🎟️ Free and open to the public | RSVP at info@czechschoolchicago.org or 312-375-2541
Join us for a special literary evening with Radka Denemarková, one of the most acclaimed contemporary Czech authors. Known for her fearless exploration of truth, power, and memory, Denemarková is the only writer to have received the prestigious Magnesia Litera Award in four different categories. Her work has been translated into more than 20 languages.
In 2024, she was awarded the Czech State Medal of Merit in Culture and Arts, the Franz Kafka Prize, and the European Tolerance Award for her exceptional contributions to literature and civil society.
This discussion—held in connection with the anniversary of the end of World War II—will reflect on the role of literature in today’s world and the lessons (un)learned from the twentieth century.
“Literature has only one task: not to be afraid and not to lie... It is the purest form of love for life.” — Radka Denemarková

The TGM group of parents, friends, and teachers wrapped up Saturday’s classes in style – by heading to the final concert of the legendary Petr Janda’s last American tour! 🎸🎶 Some of our Czech language students even prepared a cheat sheet so they could sing along. Our teacher and violinist, Klára Moldová, was invited on stage by Petr Janda himself and joined him for a few songs. 🎻
